Books and Basketball is Two Weeks Away

Register to Volunteer and/or Donate Baked Goods (and Books!)

Our annual TPMS Books & Basketball fundraiser is coming in only two weeks, on February 27 and 28! Join us on Friday night at 6 pm for the basketball game and book pre-sale, and on Saturday from 10 am–1 pm in the TPMS cafeteria for our book sale. 

We would welcome your help with any of the following:

  • Ticket sales: 
    • Student tickets are $3 for the basketball game and accompanying adults are free for up to three students. Ticket sales will begin before school the week of February 23 to Feb 27. Ticket sales during the time will be cash or check only. 
    • Tickets may also be purchased at the door using cash, Venmo, check or Paypal.
    • We need parents to help staff the ticket sales in the week up to the game from 7:55 am to 8:15 am. If you can volunteer for that brief time, please sign up here.
  • Book Donations:
    • We would still love your used books! Please have your child drop them in the box outside the office labeled Book Sale. 
    • You can always drop your books on the porch at 409 Beech Ave (celineallard@yahoo.com) or on the porch of 902 Gist Ave, Silver Spring (summersmith100@gmail.com).
  • Volunteers: 
    • While we have some truly awesome volunteers, we need more. If you are able to volunteer either Friday or Saturday, please sign up here to sign up for a shift to help with the basketball game, book sale, bake sale and silent auction.
  • Bake Sale:
    • As part of both the basketball game and the book sale, we will be holding a bake sale. Please sign up here to donate baked goods. We would ask you to drop your baked goods either on Friday February 28 3-5 pm or Friday by Sarah Corcoran’s place (you can email her at sia2210@yahoo.com for the address).

And finally, students can earn SSL hours for volunteering at either the basketball game or the book sale through Difference Makers. Sign up today through Difference Makers. Thanks for helping us make Books and Basketball awesome!

 

Silent Auction Coming Soon

On February 22, we’ll open up our Silent Auction online fundraiser!  It’s going to be amazing, so be on the look out for our upcoming Silent Auction. The auction will close at Books & Basketball on Saturday, February 28.

Multicultural Night & Student Assembly a Huge Success!

Dancing, drumming, eating, enjoying incredible performances, and meeting and celebrating our big beautiful TPMS family and all the cultures and places we originate from!  A big show of thanks to Ramata Diop for running such a fantastic Multicultural Night event this year and pulling together this assembly.  And especially to all of our students and families who presented, performed, and provided a taste of the culture!   

I also want to thank Franklyn of Bonniejazz Music who not only performed for our student assembly during the day, he returned to do a drum circle performance with our TPMS families during the event!  If you’re interested in taking lessons or having Bonniejazz music at your event, learn more at their website and reach out to bonniejazzmusic@yahoo.com .

MCPS has been cutting back on resources negatively impacting ARS (and LAD) programs at TPMS.  And when those programs receive cuts, it impacts EVERYONE in our school in a myriad of ways, seen and unseen.

News from MCCPTA

Listening Session on MCPS’ upcoming Volt AI Pilot

This Thursday, February 19, the MCCPTA Technology Committee will be hosting a listening session on MCPS’ upcoming Volt AI Pilot, currently scheduled to be conducted in 3 schools (Seneca Valley, BCC and Magruder High Schools) beginning in March. While MCPS is still in the process of holding town hall outreach sessions on Volt, we at the Technology Committee have received a number of inquiries and correspondence from parents wanting to learn more, concerned about the privacy implications of the use of (AI) surveillance in schools, etc.  So while we work to try and get more information from MCPS (and hope to attend at least one of the MCPS Town Halls on Volt AI next week), we’re also scheduling this listening session for parents to come and share what they’ve learned about Volt AI from these meetings, raise questions or concerns that they’d like us to consider, and generally compare notes. Families are welcome to attend any time during the one hour session. See below for details!

Libros y Baloncesto: ¡En Dos Semanas!

Inscríbete como voluntario o dona productos horneados (¡y libros!)

¡Nuestra recaudación anual de fondos de TPMS, Libros y Baloncesto, llega en solo dos semanas, el 27 y 28 de febrero! Únete a nosotros el viernes a las 6 p. m. para el partido de baloncesto y la preventa de libros, y el sábado de 10 a. m. a 1 p. m. en la cafetería de TPMS para la venta de libros.

Agradecemos tu ayuda con cualquiera de los siguientes:

Venta de entradas:

  • Las entradas para estudiantes cuestan $3 para el partido de baloncesto y los adultos acompañantes entran gratis para hasta tres estudiantes. La venta de entradas comenzará antes del inicio de clases, la semana del 23 al 27 de febrero. La venta de entradas durante ese período será solo en efectivo o con cheque.
  • Las entradas también se pueden comprar en la puerta con efectivo, Venmo, cheque o PayPal.

El 22 de febrero, ¡iniciamos nuestra Subasta Silenciosa en línea para recaudar fondos! Será increíble, así que estén atentos a nuestra próxima Subasta Silenciosa. La subasta cerrará en Books & Basketball el sábado 28 de febrero.

 

¡La Noche Multicultural y la Asamblea Estudiantil fueron todo un éxito!

Bailando, tocando tambores, comiendo, disfrutando de increíbles presentaciones, conociendo y celebrando a nuestra gran y hermosa familia de TPMS y todas las culturas y lugares de donde provenimos. Un gran agradecimiento a Ramata Diop por organizar una Noche Multicultural tan fantástica este año y por organizar esta asamblea. ¡Y especialmente a todos nuestros estudiantes y familias que presentaron, actuaron y nos dieron una muestra de la cultura!

También quiero agradecer a Franklyn de Bonniejazz Music, quien no solo actuó para nuestra asamblea estudiantil durante el día, sino que también regresó para realizar una presentación de círculo de tambores con nuestras familias de TPMS durante el evento. Sesión de escucha sobre el próximo programa piloto de IA Volt de MCPS

Este jueves 19 de febrero, el Comité de Tecnología de MCCPTA organizará una sesión de escucha sobre el próximo programa piloto de IA Volt de MCPS, programado para llevarse a cabo en tres escuelas (Seneca Valley, BCC y Magruder High Schools) a partir de marzo. Si bien MCPS aún está realizando reuniones públicas sobre Volt, en el Comité de Tecnología hemos recibido numerosas consultas y correspondencia de padres que desean obtener más información, están preocupados por las implicaciones de privacidad del uso de la vigilancia (IA) en las escuelas, etc. Por lo tanto, mientras trabajamos para obtener más información de MCPS (y esperamos asistir al menos a una de las reuniones públicas de MCPS sobre IA Volt la próxima semana), también estamos programando esta sesión para que los padres compartan lo que han aprendido sobre IA Volt en estas reuniones, planteen preguntas o inquietudes que deseen que consideremos y, en general, intercambien impresiones. ዓመታዊው የTPMS መጽሐፍት እና የቅርጫት ኳስ ማሰባሰቢያችን በሁለት ሳምንታት ውስጥ ብቻ ነው፣ የካቲት 27 እና 28! አርብ ምሽት በ6 ሰዓት የቅርጫት ኳስ ጨዋታ እና የቦታ ቅድመ-ሽያጭ ለማድረግ ይቀላቀሉን፣ እና ቅዳሜ ከጠዋቱ 10 ሰዓት እስከ 1 ሰዓት በTPMS ካፌቴሪያ ውስጥ ለመጽሐፍ ሽያጫችን ይቀላቀሉን።

  • ወላጆች እስከ ጨዋታው ድረስ ባለው ሳምንት ውስጥ የቲኬት ሽያጮችን ከጠዋቱ 7፡55 እስከ 8፡15 ድረስ እንዲረዱን እንፈልጋለን። ለአጭር ጊዜ በፈቃደኝነት መሥራት ከቻሉ፣ እባክዎን እዚህ ይመዝገቡ።

በጎ ፈቃደኞች፡-

  • በጣም አስደናቂ በጎ ፈቃደኞች ቢኖሩንም፣ ተጨማሪ ያስፈልገናል። አርብ ወይም ቅዳሜ በጎ ፈቃደኛ መሆን ከቻሉ፣ እባክዎን እዚህ ይመዝገቡ እና በቅርጫት ኳስ ጨዋታ፣ በመጽሐፍ ሽያጭ፣ በመጋገሪያ ሽያጭ እና በዝምታ ጨረታ ላይ ለመርዳት ለፈረቃ ይመዝገቡ።

የመጋገሪያ ሽያጭ፡-

  • የቅርጫት ኳስ ጨዋታ እና የመጽሐፍ ሽያጭ አካል እንደመሆናችን መጠን የመጋገሪያ ሽያጭ እናዘጋጃለን። የተጋገሩ እቃዎችን ለመለገስ እባክዎን እዚህ ይመዝገቡ። የተጋገሩ እቃዎችን አርብ የካቲት 28 ከቀኑ 3-5 ሰዓት ወይም አርብ በሳራ ኮርኮራን ቦታ እንዲያስቀምጡ እንጠይቅዎታለን (ለአድራሻው በ sia2210@yahoo.com ኢሜይል መላክ ይችላሉ)።

በመጨረሻም፣ ተማሪዎች በቅርጫት ኳስ ጨዋታ ወይም በDifference Makers በኩል በመፅሐፍ ሽያጭ ላይ የSSL ሰዓቶችን ማግኘት ይችላሉ። ዛሬውኑ በDifference Makers በኩል ይመዝገቡ። መጽሐፍት እና የቅርጫት ኳስ አስደናቂ እንዲሆኑ ስለረዱን እናመሰግናለን!

 

ጸጥተኛ ጨረታ በቅርቡ ይመጣል

የካቲት 22፣ ጸጥተኛ ጨረታን በመስመር ላይ እናዘጋጃለን! አስደናቂ ይሆናል፣ ስለዚህ ለሚመጣው ጸጥተኛ ጨረታችን ተጠንቀቁ። ጨረታው ቅዳሜ፣ የካቲት 28 በቡክስ እና ቅርጫት ኳስ ይዘጋል።

MCPS በTPMS የARS (እና LAD) ፕሮግራሞችን አሉታዊ ተጽዕኖ በሚያሳድሩ ሀብቶች ላይ እየቀነሰ ነው። እነዚያ ፕሮግራሞች ቅናሽ ሲደረግላቸው፣ በትምህርት ቤታችን ውስጥ ያለውን እያንዳንዱን ሰው በብዙ መንገዶች፣ በሚታዩም በማይታዩም መንገዶች ይጎዳል።

እባክዎን የብሎግ ጽሑፌን ለማንበብ ትንሽ ጊዜ ይውሰዱ፣ እና ኢሜይሌን (ወይም የራስዎን) ለBOE እና ለሱፐርኢንቴንደንት መልእክቱን የሚያጎላ ሁለት ደቂቃዎችን ለመላክ።

በዚህ ሐሙስ፣ የካቲት 19፣ የMCCPTA ቴክኖሎጂ ኮሚቴ በመጋቢት ወር ጀምሮ በ3 ትምህርት ቤቶች (ሴኔካ ቫሊ፣ ቢሲሲ እና ማግሩደር ሁለተኛ ደረጃ ትምህርት ቤቶች) ላይ በMCPS የቮልት AI የሙከራ ፕሮግራም ላይ የማዳመጥ ክፍለ ጊዜ ያካሂዳል። MCPS በቮልት ላይ የከተማ አዳራሽ የማዳመጥ ክፍለ ጊዜዎችን በማካሄድ ላይ እያለ፣ እኛ በቴክኖሎጂ ኮሚቴ ውስጥ ያለን ወላጆች የበለጠ ለማወቅ ከሚፈልጉ ወላጆች በርካታ ጥያቄዎችን እና ደብዳቤዎችን ተቀብለናል፣ በትምህርት ቤቶች ውስጥ የ(AI) ክትትል አጠቃቀም የግላዊነት አንድምታዎች ወዘተ. ስለዚህ ከMCPS የበለጠ መረጃ ለማግኘት ስንሞክር (እና በሚቀጥለው ሳምንት በቮልት AI ላይ ቢያንስ በአንዱ የMCPS የከተማ አዳራሽ ላይ ለመገኘት ተስፋ እናደርጋለን)፣ ወላጆችም መጥተው ስለ ቮልት AI የተማሩትን እንዲያካፍሉ፣ እንድናስብባቸው የሚፈልጓቸውን ጥያቄዎች ወይም ስጋቶች እንዲያነሱ እና በአጠቃላይ ማስታወሻዎችን እንዲያወዳድሩ ይህንን የማዳመጥ ክፍለ ጊዜ ቀጠሮ እንይዛለን። ቤተሰቦች በአንድ ሰዓት ክፍለ ጊዜ ውስጥ በማንኛውም ጊዜ እንዲገኙ እንኳን ደህና መጡ። ለዝርዝሮች ከታች ይመልከቱ!
